I let my ego get the better of me early in my twenties, also in the corporate world. I made real money for the first time in my life and I used that money as a scoreboard. Then I stopped learning. Go about your life long enough with that attitude and the hurricane eventually hits you.
The trick is to always remain a student. Damn, that's super stoic-y but it's true.
