I started running about three years ago. I mark the date when my friend Jonathan and I signed up for Fleet Feet in Columbus, Ohio. You know you’re serious about something when you join a club.
Here’s us at our first speed training with Fleet Feet.
I remember looking around at the experienced runners and thinking. “Well, I screwed up. I’m so far behind. I spent the last five years drinking too much beer, watching too much football, and playing too much golf. I’m going to puke everywhere and get laughed off the track.”
Then I talked to the other runners and learned the truth.
Everyone Has Shit to Deal With
Old age, Injury, addiction.
I met a woman who started running after an ugly divorce. Running became her coping mechanism. When I met her, she was training for her seventh Boston marathon.
